Plant a tree, don’t be a stump
The efficiency of afforestation actions has always been relatively difficult to measure because if you afforest the uninhabited, remote areas of Velebit and other Dalmatian mountains and hills that most often get destroyed in summer fires, record and later verification of the results are expensive and technically complicated.

Solution

To facilitate the preservation of natural resources and to improve the measurement of the afforestation action results, we developed a web application for recording and mapping planted trees. In developing the solution, we used PHP, Postgres with PostGIS extension, Geoserver, Leaflet.js technology.

Result

The application’s database currently contains over 2300 entries, and each entry refers to several planted seedlings, as a total of 52 608 conifer trees and other species that traditionally grow in forested areas were planted through the afforestation action.
